Aloha to all the ‘Ohana on Oregon.  Hawaiian Checkers.com is having three, two hour Kōnane workshops in Sandy Oregon just outside of Portland.

We will be at the Best Western Sandy Inn.  Our first workshop is at 11:30 to 1:30.  The second workshop is from 2 to 4 and our last workshop is from 5 to 7.  The cost is $15 per person and $25 for a team of two.

This workshop is best for students at least 10 years and up. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com

My Board, My Rules

I was talking story with my friend from Kekaha and they play a different way.  I understand that some players were taught one way and others another way, so which is the right way?

I was taught the same way that it is documented in the Donald D. Kilolani Mitchell book called “Hawaiian Games to Play” and this is how I teach Konane in my classes.  But is this the right way? I believe so, but I also believe that they may have been different rules for different areas, seasons and for the individual Papamū.

I feel that if you are good, you can adapt to different rules. So which rules are right? Well I always say, My Board, My Rules.

If I play on your board, I’ll play by your rules.

The New Year 2016

Yesterday, somebody asked me if I make New Years Resolutions? I don’t like making resolutions, but I like starting a new game.  When I start a new game, I have to think about goals , objectives and strategies.  I like to think about how to accomplish those goals.  I don’t always win, but I do play hard in the game of life.

There are always adjustments that need to be made because the game is always changing in life and challenges are always chasing you down.

But if you don’t move in the game of life, then you not living.

Konane Move

In the game of life, you have to make a move.  To sit and wait for something to happen brings no value.  Mistakes are part of how we grow, if we can learn how not to make the same mistakes.   This is a good move in either direction.  Focus on your objectives and make your move.  Life is too short to wait for something to happen.

Full Circle

I have been working on a social network marketing plan for 2014.  To implement this plan will take a lot time investment and creativity to come up with the content that engages our target market.  Being someone who has always been creative, I find this a challenge because my focus for the past 10 years has been business writing which doesn’t require that type of creativity.  Now back to the roots of poetry and rhymes.  To find a place of deep thought and songs that sprinkles the sweet scent of excitement into the air.  Let the flavor of words add spice to the story and let the mind loose to tell the story.  It is time to dine on home cooking.  The ones I remember not too long ago as I come, Full Circle.

What a month of Konane

Talk about multiple jumps.  Kauai Museum on November  2nd as I was a part of the Museum’s Makahiki celebration. The OHA Konane workshop on November 23 was dominating as my presentation was my best ever.  I was able to demonstrate a possible way the ancient Hawaiian’s may have used the Papamu to calculate multiplication.  November 28 we had a Konane activity station at the Kapaa turkey trot.  I’m starting to book events for 2014 as my calendar is filling up fast.  Keep in tuned as we continue to dominate the board.
