Oregon Kōnane Workshop in March

Aloha to all the ‘Ohana on Oregon.  Hawaiian Checkers.com is having three, two hour Kōnane workshops in Sandy Oregon just outside of Portland.  

We will be at the Best Western Sandy Inn.  Our first workshop is at 11:30 to 1:30.  The second workshop is from 2 to 4 and our last workshop is from 5 to 7.  The cost is $15 per person and $25 for a team of two. 

This workshop is best for students at least 10 years and up. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com

My Board, My Rules

I was talking story with my friend from Kekaha and they play a different way.  I understand that some players were taught one way and others another way, so which is the right way?

I was taught the same way that it is documented in the Donald D. Kilolani Mitchell book called “Hawaiian Games to Play” and this is how I teach Konane in my classes.  But is this the right way? I believe so, but I also believe that they may have been different rules for different areas, seasons and for the individual Papamū. 

I feel that if you are good, you can adapt to different rules. So which rules are right? Well I always say, My Board, My Rules. 

If I play on your board, I’ll play by your rules.
